HISTORY:
The Petersburg/James River District sent mission teams to Hungary annually from 2011-2019. The teams helped with VBS, taught job skills to the women, repaired their church, and held community worship services, etc.
It was several years ago, when UMC Hungary and the Living Waters (before: James River) District created a partnership. In March 2020, just before Covid, after many years of searching and collecting, we were able to buy this building, in which we could create a small community space by combining several rooms. Here we organize services and summer camps for children. In the meantime, the Russian-Ukrainian war broke out, and this mission in Debrecen provided and still provides help to refugees near the Ukrainian border.
Thankfully, this year we also started a regular weekly youth group in this building. In addition, we have had times when our children’s program does not fit, and children are squeezed into the hallway. We are looking for a solution to this.
